Pittman pillow, and the Pittman pillow system has its roots in 1993, when Ben Pittman, formally trained as a furniture designer and ergonomics specialist, became incensed by the quality of the pillows in a hotel room in Washington DC. As Pittman drove home from Washington, he was inspired to design and develop a new way to differentiate one person’s body size from another as it relates to pillow. During the next two or three years, Pittman struggled to come up with a way to easily correlate the thickness of a pillow as related to individual body sizes. Much research was undertaken, and during the research process, the largest pillow manufacturer in the world at the time, Pillowtex helped, pouring tens of thousands of dollars into the project. With the demise of Pillowtex, Pittman continued to research and design new ways to correlate a pillow with its user, especially dwelling upon the thickness of a pillow and the relative comfort of sleeping pillow.
