Finding a comfortable pillow is sometimes like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Back in 1993, after sleeping in a hotel room that had terrible pillows high decided to do something about that. With my background in furniture design and ergonomics. I started to develop specialty pillars and haven’t stopped since. So my first pillows were really bad, leaving me with headaches and neck problems and all kinds of other maladies. However, as I continue to experiment started to learn much about the interaction of the shoulders and neck in the head with a pillow during the sleep process.
Finding a comfortable pillow’s should not be a painful experience. Pittman pillow was designed to simplify this complex and confusing process. We all sleep differently, as a matter of fact, some people sleep on their side. Some people sleep on their stomach, and some people sleep on their back. Most people however sleep on their side, the majority of the night. They move from one side to the other, and occasionally will sleep on their back that most side sleepers, lay sleep on their side with the little bit of sleep on the back and never sleep on their stomach. High concentrated on the side sleepers, because they make up about 80% of the sleepers, who are using my type pillow.
I searching out and designing pillows that complement our different sleeping positions and habits, I was able to learn and understand more and more about how the human body reacts to the minor differences in pillow’s that are commonly sold in most stores.
I kept trying to find a way that would help differentiate one person’s body from another, which proved to be a difficult task until I came upon a very unique solution. Riding down the road one day it hit me. Why not correlate a pillow to a dress size for a woman or a jacket size for a man. Then, the most important measurement would be from the shoulder to the ear. Then I’ll start to make sense, all I had to do was get one of my tailored friends to help me understand how a man’s jacket size relates to a woman’s dress size, when it comes to shoulder width. The next step was to develop the Pittman pillow chart, which has been used for many years now to help us design specialty pillars for use by chiropractors and individuals who have related to us various types of sleep problems related to poorly designed pillows.
It is actually amazing to me that the pillow industry has never taken the time or the effort to really understand what a good pillow is all about Currently the three basic sizes of the pillow consists of soft medium and firm and has no relationship from one company to the other. Therefore, a software from one manufacturing company may be quite different from another and the same goes for the other two variations. As a matter of fact, most the time soft medium and firm simply means a little bit of fill material. More fill material, and then even more fill material.
So what should we look for in a good pillow? The best pillow should have outstanding quality can be extraordinarily comfortable while maintaining stability throughout the entire sleep cycle.
Let’s talk a little bit about current pillows that we can get some idea of the challenge here. Currently pillows come in standard queen Jumbo and King size of these relate only to the length of the pillow. A standard is 26 inches, jumbos 28, cleanest 30, and the King is 36. So we have the standard based on length, and then we have the standard based on the thickness being soft medium or firm, which doesn’t really relate to anything. It just simply indicates how much fill material is in the pillow, with no rhyme or reason from one manufacturer to another to determine anything about comfort or sizing up a person size.
Would you settle for a system of shoes, where there’s only three sizes of shoes or bras or any other type of garment.
Let’s examine the Pittman pillow chart and you have a better idea of what work talking about, because the Pittman pillow chart would allow you to develop pillows in any of the standard links available today to give you the right thickness, which has been completely ignored by the sleeping pillow industry until we started developing this concept. Over 15 years ago.
